Less effort. More independence.
These Easy Grip Self-Opening Scissors are designed for people who find conventional scissors difficult, tiring or uncomfortable to use.
Unlike standard scissors that require the user to repeatedly open and close the blades, the built-in spring automatically reopens the scissors after each cut. This means the user mainly needs to squeeze the handles to make the cut, making repetitive cutting tasks easier and less demanding.
The large, easy-grip handles provide a comfortable surface for the hand, while the blunt-tip stainless-steel blades provide a practical cutting tool for craft, school, therapy and everyday activities.
They can be particularly useful for people with reduced hand strength, limited dexterity or difficulty with the repeated opening movement of conventional scissors, including some children, adults and older people.
Why you'll love them
- Self-opening action – the spring automatically reopens the blades after each cut
- Easy-grip handles – a larger handle area makes them easier to squeeze and control
- Less repetitive hand movement – no need to actively open the blades after every cut
- Supports independence – can make everyday cutting tasks more accessible
- Right- or left-handed use – suitable for both hands
- Blunt-tip stainless-steel blades – practical for everyday craft and classroom activities
- Useful across a range of ages and abilities – particularly helpful where hand strength or dexterity is a consideration
- Lightweight and straightforward – easy to incorporate into home, school or therapy activities
Who might benefit from self-opening scissors?
These scissors can be a helpful adaptive tool for people who find traditional scissors challenging due to reduced grip strength, limited fine-motor control, fatigue, arthritis or difficulty coordinating the repeated open-and-close action.
They may also be useful for children developing their scissor skills who benefit from concentrating on the squeezing and cutting action without having to manage the additional movement of reopening the blades.
For Occupational Therapists and other allied health professionals, they can be incorporated into activities targeting functional hand use, grip, bilateral coordination, fine-motor skills and independence with everyday tasks.
They're also a practical option for older adults or anyone experiencing hand fatigue or reduced dexterity, where conventional scissors may become uncomfortable or difficult to operate.
